What is a Lower Body Lift Surgery?
A lower body lift is a contouring procedure that removes excess skin and fat to lift and reshape certain parts of the body. This surgery focuses on the middle and lower body, including the buttocks, stomach, lower back, flanks, and upper thighs. Sometimes called a belt lipectomy, a lower body lift is a major procedure that can recontour a patient’s lower half of the body. At John F. Burnett, MD, lower body lift surgery has helped many people transform their physique by removing loose skin that commonly results from pregnancy and weight loss. How Does Body Lift Surgery Work?
This procedure is done under general anesthesia and typically involves an overnight stay in a medical facility. The surgery can last about 4 – 7 hours. Dr. Burnett will make a surgical incision along the area where a belt is worn, followed by surgical liposuction to remove excess fat. Any hanging skin will be gently trimmed away, and the remaining skin will be pulled tight and secured with sutures. Compression garments may be worn over the treated area to help create a slimmer appearance, as well as to control swelling, bleeding, and bruising. Following a lower body lift, you can expect to need two or more weeks prior to resuming basic activities. It usually takes up to six months before you can exercise again. Our staff will discuss detailed instructions on caring for the wounds in order to minimize scarring. Despite the long recovery period, most individuals find that their smooth, tight results are well worth the wait.
